I am using gcc 2.95.2-7 and I just did the following:

    $ make distclean
    $ configure --with-threads=no --with-libm= --with-suffix=.exe
    $ make
    $ ./python -tt ./Lib/test/regrtest.py -l -x test_poll

The regression tests behave as before (i.e., only test_strftime and
test_time fail). Note that my Python CVS working directory is essential
in the 2.1a2 state. I don't think so but could this be a problem with
the latest Python CVS?

I am going to do a cvs update and repeat the above. I will report back to
the list when done.
