ppl.sh: update 'configure' invocation

This patch series updates the call to 'configure' in the 'ppl.sh'
script to:

1. Accomodate some changes to the switch names;
2. Reduce compilation time (and sidestep a bug); and
3. Remove an extraneous (and confusing) switch.
