does crosstool-ng support to build static toolchain now?

I am trying to build x-tools that could compile spec 2006 that run on sesc.  
The target architecture is mips, C library is glibc, gcc version is 4.4.3
I got an error as:

x-tools/mips-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/../lib/gcc/mips-unknown-linux-gnu/4.4.3/../../../../mips-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc_s
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
 
I do have -libgcc_s.so in the corresponding directory.
