On the whole, I don't mind. I do _care_, but I don't _mind_.

What I care about is that people will send git patches, and I won't be able
to easily apply that on top of my tree. Basically, it means the reference
may switch to the git tree, and I *won't* maintain that. If you want to
handle it, you are welcome to, of course! :-)

So the user is free to do the conversion if so he/she wishes to, as
you did.
