CT-NG: What's the recommended way to convince glibc config to use --host=powerpc64?

Pardon me if this has already been answered, but i searched the list,
and found no conclusive answer.

Whats the recommended way to pass glibc's configure
--host=powerpc64-*-*?

I am trying to build a 64-bit powerpc-970-linux toolchain, but glibc
insists on using 32-bit sysdeps.
