OK. I will do exactly that, but if it breaks on _my_ machine, I won't commit
that. The right (the best one) fix would be to ask the gentoo guys to remove
this check.

That can't be done after decompression, because the process is the same for
all tarballs, and I can't hack in a special case for a badly built tarball
or a too picky distribution...
The right place to do that is in the MPFR build script, just prior to running
./configure.
