arm & mips & glibc >= 2.4 ??

I was trying to peek at glibc-2.4 for a clue to an issue I'm seeing in 2.3.6 (see separate email on
that), and much to my surprise I find that glibc-2.4 (and 2.5) have no arm or mips dirs in them.
???

So I fished around and found in the ChangeLog that these (and others) have been moved to the "ports
repository."  ?!?!!

Now, does that mean that these ports are still being maintained actively, but now in a separate svn
repo? Or does it mean that these ports are deprecated (or otherwise somehow second-class citizens)
such that I should be wary of trying to use them?

I found some info about the ports repo on eglibc.org. But it's not clear how one ought to proceed
with using glibc-2.4 on (say) arm or mips - eglibc.org gives off a strong not-ready-for-prime-time
vibe. And the lack of a canned tarball release makes me a little nervous, too.

What are other folks doing? Are people sticking with glibc 2.3.6 or older for now?
