Crosstool: compiled for a little endian system and target is big endian

Problem... I'm using the file armeb.dat as follows:

TARGET_CFLAGS="--build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --enable-add-ons --enable-shared"
GCC_EXTRA_CONFIG="--disable-shared --disable-threads --with-gnu-as
--with-gnu-ld --with-cpu=xscale  --enable-cxx-flags=-mcpu=xscale
--enable-multilib --enable-languages=c"

and the build bombs out right here:

Build glibc and linuxthreads
+ mkdir -p build-glibc
+ cd build-glibc
+ echo
+ test '!' -f Makefile
+ BUILD_CC=gcc
+ CFLAGS='--build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --enable-add-ons --enable-shared '
+ CC='armeb-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc '
+ AR=armeb-unknown-linux-gnu-ar
+ RANLIB=armeb-unknown-linux-gnu-ranlib
+ /home/satvika/myCrossCompiler/build/armeb-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-3.4.4-glibc-2.3.3/glibc-2.3.3/configure
--prefix=/usr --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --host=armeb-unknown-linux-gnu

and this is what i pulled out of config.log:

am i possibly just being really stupid here?

 When you say 'I wrote a program that crashed Windows', people just
stare at you blankly and say 'Hey, I got those with the system, *for
free*'. (L. Torvalds)
