glibx-2.3.5 and NPTL, "forced unwind support"

  in the process of trying to enable the NPTL add-on to my
glibc-2.3.5, and i'm told i need "forced unwind support."

  google leads me to a number of threads, all of which seem a bit
tentative about the correct solution.

  for now, i'll just leave out NPTL support and revisit this later,
unless someone has a suggestion they'd like me to try.  onward.

p.s.  when i eventually try to add NPTL support, do i need the option
"--enable-threads=posix"?
