Compile flags to minimize library size?

Hi there,
I am trying to build the cross tool chain to compile binaries for an Intel
XScale embedded system.
I take it to _run_ binaries compiled by cross-g++, I should use the libstdc++
that crosstool built.
The size of libstdc++ (stripped) is about 850 kByte. To save memory space I'd
like to reduce this size.
Is setting
TARGET_CFLAGS="-Os"
the correct way to achieve this or do you know of other compile flags that
affect the size of the binaries?
Thanks for any help,
Cheers
