trouble with fix-embedded-paths

Hi all, 
       I noticed gcc 4 can estimate based on access functions, size of
data used etc in the loop. Can any body point me to any
paper/documentation related to that.

           Also is there any option which weill help dump the estimate
for different loops in a program.
