Well, for glibc-2.3.4, that is.  It looks like glibc-2.3.5 is different 
enough that there's too much fuzz for the patch to apply.

Your patch is equivalent (I found it in the patches subdir), except that 
it's missing equivalent functionality for ld. 

So, I get all that fixed up only to get knocked over a few steps later:
