maybe i did not provide enough information, i am using the newlib crosstool
(from contrib) and am building newlib.

i have since moved to targeting i486-unknown-elf (no os at all ?), but really
i am going to use the nucleus operating system, as gcc nor newlib knows about
that its better that it does not know.

the gcc-core stage builds fine, so could the issue be with not having
'--disable-multilib' for the full build ?
