crosstool mips failures

i've been looking at the crosstool failures for mipsel, from the build logs
on dan kegel's site,  specifically gcc-3.4.2/glibc-2.3.3.

i get the same failure point, but a different error message.  i get unknown
option mabi=32.  looking at the build logs, it appears that the tool is
using the host gcc rather than a cross gcc.

this seems to occur on all mips and mipsel targets in the gcc 3.4 builds.

i'll poke around the scripts, and see if i can figure out why this is being
done, and whether it's mips specific or general.

oh, and i'm using 0.28-rc37, fedora core 2 with latest updates, host gcc
3.3.3 20040412.
