i already eyeballed the relevant files in 2.6.9, and they don't have
that conflict -- clearly, that was cleaned up in 2.6.9. i'll give it
a go this evening with gcc4. for simplicity, i'll just apply the same
patches as for 2.6.8 unless you have information to the contrary.
