Relocating gcc after build (was: Include Directories)

This is becoming a frequently asked question.

The RPMs from Montavista are relocatable.
Not sure what technique they used to do that
(well, ok, I did look at some of their patches when I was writing
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/gdb/2002-07/msg00155.html
so I could probably figure it out if I had to).

Relocatability is sneaking into the main tree; see
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/binutils/2003-02/msg00307.html
http://sources.redhat.com/ml/binutils/2003-02/msg00428.html
No idea how much is left to do, or how long it'll take.
Daniel, care to comment?

From: Jason Wilkins...
I want to be able to install [gcc-3.2.2] in any directory I want.
The problem is that the compiler cannot find its include directories ...
How do I get the compiler to use relative paths?
