depending on what your target is, and what build (i.e cross build) of gdb
you have, the command could be as simple as :
>target sim
I know this is the case with arm-elf-gdb.... not sure about other
targets....
- if there is a .gdbinit file present, then you should disable it with
the -nx flag as it may be selecting the target at startup
