  Just for example, the libiberty versions are often not synced.  I did
once try unpacking newlib and gcc into the same top level directory and
got a *nightmare* of clashing headers.

  Search the list archive for those "ln -s" commands and see how often
it's helped in the past before.  I reckon it probably is the missing
step in Bill's FAQ.
