ELF header

hiii alll,
 i am working on elf(executable link format).
 Please help me to extract section name.
 one way is read each section table, and if section type(sh_type) is
 SHT_STRTAB then read the contents of that section and store.
 
 Is there any other way to access it.

 One more.
  what is the use of e_shstrndx in ELF header and why it is used??
