problem install gcc for mips

Awfully sorry for this: the mail was erroneously sent before i finished
to write it...

I' am trying to install the cross-gcc on a Debian  testing/unstable and
I was able to build binutils (010920 snapshot) apparently without
problems, 
but then building of gcc stops
with: 
 /home/dave/src/gcc/build//mipsel-linux/bin/ld: cannot open crti.o: No 
such file or directory
        
The target flag with which the binutils and gcc where  configure are:
--target=mipsel-linux.
