   AHA!!!  Discard my previous message that I hit send five seconds before
this arrived!

  When building under cygwin, *always* use the mount command to make
a *textmode* mountpoint for your source directory, and use that path in
the configure command.  This eliminates most dos2unix problems, although
I sometimes have to dos2unix the fixinc'd headers as well.
