  The 'make' command should be standard on any linux machine.  On some of
them it may be called 'gmake' instead, so you should try that.

  If you find that using 'gmake' works and starts building but then fails
part way through when one makefile tries to make another, you would need to
execute the command

  export MAKE=gmake

before you get going which tells the makefiles to use 'gmake', not 'make',
by default.
