Yes, Andreas suggests gcc-2.97, I have been using egcs-1.03a. I don't 
think we disagree, so much as we are using different 
systems. I found a bug in gcc-2.96 that prevented the build of 
linux-vr, so I went back to egcs-1.03a. If you are using a different 
Linux, try gcc-2.97. Or, use egcs-1.03a to compile Linux and gcc-2.97 
for all else.
