native GCC-compiler

Hello everyone.
I have two questions.
1. I have tried to build gcc in a cygwin environment on a PC with OS Win95, without success.
Configuration doesn't work and the message "You must set your environment variable CC
to a working compiler. But I want to build a working compiler. I have tried to set CC in bash
but the same problem occur.
(Previous I have built, with a lot of help from this maillist, a crosscompiler for M68040 but then
my cygwin environment was placed in Win NT so the builtin gcc-compiler wich comes with
cygwin worked.) So my question is: Why doesn't it work on Win95?
2. When you want to build a native compiler to be able to get executables how do you set the
startadress for the compiled programs. My native gcc-compiler wich comes with cygwin
gives me executables wich gives me fatal error when I try to execute them.
But the executables when making cross-gcc-m68k works ( must be something that gets
configured automatically when building the cross-compiler )
