Stack Requirements

Hi all,
I know that gcc was designed for a use within an OS and assumes that there
is enough Heap and stack available but I can't seem to find out how to get
the stack requirements for my embedded projects. So far I have been able to
get away with just allocating a big stack and then testing that I don't run
out. I know that most compilers do track stack usage and there are some that
even allocate space in a special stack segment (aside from those that have
to for the X86) so that you can control the allocation in the linker.
Is there a way to get the stack requirement information from GCC.
Thanks
Stan Katz
