newbie question about compilation

i made the cross toolchain for StrongARM cpu.
i now want to compile simple application on Linux, like timidity, for this
platform (StrongARM).
what is the syntax to do this ?
do i have to make changes to the makefile of this app in order to compile it
to strongarm ?
