Porting GAS etc.

I don't know if this is the right list to ask, but I'll give it a try. Does anyone
know of the existence of a manual/document for porting GAS to a "new"
processor? I am want to try to port GAS etc. to the Zilog Z8S180 family. Or 
maybe such a port already exists.
Of course afterwards I am planning to also port GCC to this family. ;-)
