m68k-coff-gcc and NOPs

Hi,
Does anybody know why the 68K version of gcc compiles a NOP
instruction at the end of each function, after the RTS? It seems a bit
wasteful in an embedded environment. The only benefit I can think of is that
it would prevent a logic analyser triggering on a prefetch from the function
before when set to trigger on a function start address.

Thanks,
Chris Palmer
