Compiling for dos from linux?

Ok, I've never worked with cross compiling before but I believe my
problem falls under this catagory. I already looked at the FAQ (old and
new) and didn't find the info I needed. 
The problem is that I'm taking a C language class (mandatory) but the
instructor wants our programs complied (for dos/win). Since I don't use
dos or windoze anymore this is a problem. 
Can anyone give me some information on compiling dos programs under
linux, or at least point me in the right direction?
