problems building a sparc -> hp crosscompiler

for the 2nd problem you have, i encountered the same thing a while ago
building a cross-compiler from sparc to powerpc.  the problem is you
can't use the program "patch" that comes with the solaris.  instead, you
need to download the gnu patch program from http://sunfreeware.com (or
download the source from gnu and build it yourself).
