make cross can't find `.o's

When building a cross compiler (ix86 host & build, arm target), `make
cross' can't find a number of `.o' files. These files do exist in the
binutils that I also built. Where does gcc want those files to be so
that it can find them?

The files it wants:app.o as.o atof-generic.o bignum-copy.o cond.o
depend.o ecoff.o ehopt.o expr.o flonum-copy.o flonum-konst.o
flonum-mult.o frags.o hash.o input-file.o input-scrub.o listing.o
literal.o macro.o messages.o output-file.o read.o sb.o stabs.o
subsegs.o symbols.o write.o tc-arm.o obj-elf.o atof-ieee.o
../opcodes/.libs/libopcodes.so ../bfd/.libs/libbfd.so
../libiberty/libiberty.a

Thanks in advance,

Eli
