I am even sometimes able to get my clients to release certain sections
of the code that I write so that others may benefit. These sections
usually have nothing in particular to do with the product they are
making, but are of a general nature.

My usual practice is to write a paper or article and publish it, along
with the code. I have used Dr. Dobb's Journal for this purpose
several times in the past, since they publish source code.

With the widespread availability of the internet nowdays, this is less
important, but a paper or article giving the URL is still a good way
to get the word out. It also gets my name associated with it, which
is also important, since I am an independent consultant.

This brings up an interesting point. Joel, is RTEMS ready for an
article, perhaps in DDJ or Embedded Systems Programming? This would
be a good way to publicize tha availability, and could likely drum up
some consulting contracts for yu as well.
