This is okay for the branch (but not for master, as previously indicated), albeit
I'm pretty unhappy with the description. This is largely your subjective view on
things. Down the road we really may want (or even need) to settle on what we
intend to optimize and what not. The present situation makes it rather hard to
form an objective view, as no objective (and agreed upon) criteria exist. Once we
have come to a shared understanding, some of the later added optimizations may
then want removing again, which may or may not include the one here. (And btw,
I've been holding back a further set which I have otherwise ready.)
