IMO it'd be easier if we have both binutils-2.46.tar.xz and binutils-
2.46-with-gold.tar.xz, one with gold and one without, like 2.44.
I.e. since 2.44 binutils-x.xx.tar.xz should always lack gold, so the
distros won't need to adapt whenever they update binutils if they've
already started to use the no-gold configuration at 2.44.
