Clarification on Backporting Fix for Bug 32603 (ld -w SEGV) to binutils-2.44

Dear Alan,

I’ve been working on backporting the fix for Bug 32603<https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=32603> (ld segv with -w -o and permission issues) to the binutils-2_44-branch for our product.

I noticed that the initial fix in commit 8d97c1a53f3d<https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=binutils-gdb.git;h=8d97c1a53f3dc9fd8e1ccdb039b8a33d50133150> addressed the issue in the ld/ directory, while the follow-up commit d26161914cf2<https://sourceware.org/git/gitweb.cgi?p=binutils-gdb.git;h=d26161914cf286171b29767916a212685f9aadf3> extended the fix to bfd/.

To ensure the backport is complete, I wanted to confirm:
Should both commits be combined for the 2.44 backport, or is the ld/ fix sufficient for the issue as reported?

If both are needed, would you recommend squashing them into a single backport commit? Thank you for your time.
