I think it would be a very bad idea to depend on a version of automake 
that's not a released upstream version.

Once this feature is in a released automake version, updating binutils-gdb 
to that version would make sense (coordinate with Simon Marchi, he 
recently posted some patches to gdb-patches to prepare for supporting the 
upcoming autoconf 2.70 release).  (Even if the feature is not in the 
latest automake release, updating automake - to the latest release - may 
still make sense, as no doubt it will make updating to the following 
release easier.)
