For whatever it is worth, bugzilla 11219 and the patch described at the
location below deal with an issue closely related to this one. It's
worth reading these to see some of the subtle issues surrounding LMA vs
VMA and the pheader.

I don't know that you can draw any conclusions regarding your particular 
problem here, but this is definitely a less well travelled part of the 
linker.
