time to be serious about dropping CVS

  I'd go further.  I'd say: we're going to have to suffer some pain sooner or
later.  Let's just do it now and get it over with, even if it means moving to
a non-backwardly-compatible system, and even if we all do have to learn some
new tools and it's a PITA.  It'll only be more effort in the long run if we
defer and spread it out.
