ELF .stabs to a.out

Hello.

For my custom target, I would like to use ELF object files while keeping 
executables in a.out format. It works well except for debug information.

Can ld convert the .stabs sections from ELF objects to standard a.out 
debugging information ?

If this is not possible, is there any other debugging information format 
supported by ELF that can be converted to a.out debugging information ?
