objdump output to as

Hi,

I would like to do some transformations on asm code. I thought it's possible to 'objdump' an executable, do the transformation and assemble it back with as to an executable. Somehow this doesn't seem to be possible. Which options do I need?

If this is not possible, what do you recommend? This transformation is supposed to happen on many architecures, so objdump is a good choice for an disassembler.
