Now, for questions that maybe would be answered if I thoroughly read  
the docs, so sorry in advance if that's the case:

Why does bfd_openr() not do this? Why does calling it with  
bfd_archive not set them? Are there typical uses of BFD that don't  
require these fields to be set?
