DEF file for exporting sumbols on linux

Hello group,

Can I use the linux port of ld with a .def file to list explicitely
the symbols I want to export into my .so? The man page on this
issue seems to indicate "[This option is specific to the i386 PE
targeted port of the linker]".

If this is possible, where can I find the format for this file?
