I have backported libffi and some libgcj things from a 4.0 snapshot from 
many months ago into my 3.4.  The libffi version that I am using needs 
the 32bit PC relative relocation.  I could get libffi from the current 
4.0 and probably solve this part of the problem.

Also for a variety of non-technical reasons we have to support GCC-3.3.1 
in adition to using 3.4  It would be nice to use the same binutils 
version for both.
