binutils install question

Hi all,

I have read the binutils/README and have performed a couple successful
builds of binutils, but I could use clarification with the actual install.

After binutils is built and 'make install' is run, assuming the the prefix
is set to a directory in /usr/local/..., is it sufficient to just create
symbolic links to the binaries from a directory that is in the path or is it
necessary to also link/update header files and/or anything else?

I just want to be very clear what needs to be where for proper
system/binutils function.
