Well, I don't think there exists a reference gcc < 3.0 for MIPS/Linux, so
the behaviour depends on the set of patches used. The version I use
(2.95.4) has "-mgp64" forced in its specs for "-mips3" and above, so it
doesn't work as expected. It can be fixed, but I don't care at this
stage.
