I see that this was recently regenerated by Mark Mitchell using
Autoconf 2.53:

   revision 1.111
   date: 2002/04/30 17:46:58;  author: mmitchel;  state: Exp;  lines: +7006 -3146
   * configure.in: Add support for powerpc-*-windiss.
   * configure: Regenerated.

Does the binutils project have a policy for the version of Autoconf
that will be used (at least in the near term) for generating configure
scripts?  I bring this up because a change introduced in Autoconf
2.50+ has broken "make check" in the gas directory.
