Trouble linking the kernel

Hello,

I am having troubles trying to compile the stock Redhat kernel under the
stock Redhat 7.3. It fails at linkage stage (ld fails to link).

I've tried also the 2.12.90.0.9 version from ftp.kernel.org.
Same result.

Do I miss something obvious ?

Any helpful hint MUCH appreciated :-)
