No objection on creating the branch.  Just so that I don't forget to
report again, I've been having trouble with a native gcc+binutils+gdb
build on AIX 4.1 for a couple of weeks.  I'm about to start this
week's GCC snapshot build (along with the other tool-chain tools) and,
if I'm lucky, I may have time to look into the problem.

I don't recall the exact problem any longer, but one of the tools
failed to use an archive created by another of the tools, claiming it
was not a proper archive.  Quite odd.
