Problem with binutils

I keep getting the following message when I try to do a 'make check' on the 
completed binutils.

  I've gotten this on 2 different machines (connected to the same shared 
network drive), running with 2 different GCC's.  Thought it was my fault, 
since I've been getting it for a while, but I reinstalled the GCC back to 
it's delivered state, it works with no problems.  Any ideas?
