sigsegv in ld 2.10.91 (with BFD 010122)

I've been using the version of ld indicated in the subject line on an
i686-linux-gnu(2.2.1) box.  Several (but not all) applications have
caused ld to
die (e.g.,  the current libSDL-1.1.8  or  mpeg2_movie-1.5).   I tried
using gcc-2.95.2 and the current gcc snapshot to build the packages,
with no change.

The actual message is:


collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault], core dumped
